Restore Config and Data to new NS on PVE

@sternkrabbe thanks for your experience. Mine was a bit different.

Context:

• no NSDC container
• no connected services externally
• backup on SMB share

I moved around at least 15 servers, among hardware and from physical to virtual.

These were my steps.

• refresh the backup from the source server while
• installing “new server” from ISO, then reboot
• download a config from the source server (not using firefox, and anyway i used it); optional, file can be found into data backup SMB folder
• install/update the backup module on the new server
• shutdown the old server
• load the configuration file into new server
• manage the network interfaces/roles attribution
• waited the configuration restore (with package install/update)
• run data restore

And every time worked as intended. At least, lately.

Config-restore do not restore root password

Selective configuration restore: network restore exclusion

Scenario… I’m gonna use a hosted installation, for services that for some reasons, it’s better put outside the company rather than inside. Yesterday evening i got stuck into a firewall restore. Bad idea to restore a 7.6 configuration on 7.5 setup. For anyone who’s trying to do the same thing: install Nethserver, update to latest release, and only then restore. Maybe one day there will be a disclaimer during first NethServer setup who will tell you “restore only a configuration from the same version of this installation”.

How clone HDD for NethServer?

Well, mission accomplished. Can’t boot after replacing hardware

I did something similar from Acer Veriton with AMD LE1660 CPU to intel E6520 (and related mainboard), but i were totally sure that i installed NethServer with AHCI setup on first mainboard and this was the same one with the new one.
