Test Mail server w/ Orange Business provider

hey folks,

i want to test Nethserver as mail server into our company, but i have many questions :

  • Orange Business didn’t allow reverse IP… should i use the internal IP to access on it ?
  • Which port did i need to open to access on it from outside ?
(Port actually opened and redirected 110 / 143 / 587 / 993 TCP or UDP only for imap),
  • The domain provider is 1&1, should is use smarthost to send emails ?

Many thanks for your help.

P.S. sorry for my english, i’m french

Hi,

When I can not set the reverse DNS, usually I use the smarthost.

The ports to be enabled are:

  • 25 SMTP to receive mail (enable NAT to your mail server on the router)
  • 465-587 SMTPS SSL and TLS to allow external clients to send mail
  • 993 IMAPS for access to imap (SSL)

Optional port:

  • 443 HTTPS for administrative interface, owncloud, sites

Ports 110 (pop3) and 143 (IMAP without SSL) do not need

It’s main server or download mail via pop3 connector?

Can you explain it to me?
I think SMTP is to send mail, not to receive, and if you enable 465 or 587 for SMTPS, why do you need Port 25 too.
Do I have an error in reasoning?

If you connect to the server a mail client (outlook, thunderbird) to send mail, you use port 465 or 587 (encrypted communication via certified).

The mail servers communicate with other servers on port 25.

HI,

Thanks for replay,

I can connect to the server from outside the company, but unable to receive and send mails.

I’m waiting that Orange Business do the modification foor the forwarding.

Thanks

Ok, thanks for your discription, I thought the mailservers could communicate through SMTPS to.

Hi there,

Orange Business opened the ports

Now i’ve been able to reveiced mail, but unable to send.

Oct 4 12:00:53 mail default/smtp[32000]: D7E368A066A: to=mmichel@xxxxxxx.com, relay=none, delay=11101, delays=11100/0.13/1.1/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to mx00.1and1.fr[212.227.15.41]:25: No route to host)

Is there something that i need to change ?

Thanks for your replay

P.S. : i use NS 6.8 because i can create email separatly of domain account

Could please explain better what is the configuration you can’t reproduce on NS 7?
I would like to understand if we are missing some feature

If the gateway is correct, could be the internet provider (or any firewall) that blocks outgoing mail (traffic on port 25).
Try telnet IP 212.227.15.41 on port 25 (eg with putty) from a pc.
If it returns the same error is not a nethserver problem.

If it was the fault of the provider, or you use a smarthost or doing unlock the outgoing traffic on port 25

i tried with putty and can not connect to the IP, i have look by Orange forums. There block the port 25, can only be used with authentified SSL credentials.

I need to use a smart host with authification :

Oct 5 10:01:59 mail default/smtp[20335]: D7E368A066A: to=mmichel@xxxxx.com, relay=auth.smtp.1and1.fr[212.227.15.184]:587, delay=90367, delays=90366/0.08/0.5/0.22, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 Requested mail action okay, completed: id=0MASzq-1blcKr2Wyo-00Bc4p)
Oct 5 10:04:35 mail default/smtp[20495]: 2813E8A066A: to=moise.michel@xxxxx.fr, relay=auth.smtp.1and1.fr[212.227.15.168]:587, delay=0.76, delays=0.08/0.03/0.46/0.18, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 Requested mail action okay, completed: id=0LkkrY-1bHFyh38lQ-00aTKy)

thanks for your help
