Samba IP adress not shown at network

NethServer Version: V7RC4
Module: samba

If you install samba you have to choose an additional IP adress, but it is only shown at account provider not at the network window. I think for a clear view you have to show it at network too.

I’m not sure showing it in the Network page is a good idea: the DC runs in a Linux container, with a separate network stack. It’s like a VM with its own network configuration. I wouldn’t show the network configuration of an external host in the Network page.

Other opinions are welcome, though!

I understand your motivation.
Perhaps you can show it read only with a note that it runs in an own container.

You are right, lets here what others think about it.

What would be its name?

“reserved by samba” for example

It still does not convince me, because “Network” page lists network interfaces, both logical and physical. What we’re talking about here is an IP address. It does not fit IMO!

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I have thought a computer can’t have an IP without a network interface. It could be logical, physical or virtual, but isn’t every IP binded to a network interface?

Exactly!

is not a network interface!

What do you think about
Device: vi (virtual interface)
Mac: n/a
Role: samba container
IP Adress: x.x.x.x
Action: Read only

It does not convince me, anyway let’s see if other people chime in!

ok, we’ll wait

What would this achieve?
Given that you won’t ever access directly to the container, why do you need to show this information on the dashboard?

I don’t really need it, it’s only nice to have.
It attrected my attention while I’ve tested samba on a second server and it says to give an own IP for samba, I couldn’t remind that I have done it for my first server (yes, of course I’ve done) and so I had a look at my network settings at the Dashboard and there I can’t find the IP. I’ve found it at Accounts provider, but this would not be the first choice.

What is wrong with the Domain Accounts information that is available in the webinterface in the Status section?

LDAP/AD container IP is already there, am I wrong?

I got you, a new box on the Dashboard that summarizes Account Provider configuration?

Exactly:

I haven’t seen it.

Yes I think this is a good idea for a better overview
