NS8 >> stats.grafana.org

We use many Open Source software in NethServer 8 often without given back much value.

I know that seeing stats query can bother, but often is the only thing we return back to upstream projects!

As a maintainer, I feel very sad when someone disable the phonehome feature of NethServer

Just my opinion: leave statics usage enable and make the devs happy!

Unfortunately, the page is on the published block lists.

Hi @mrmarkuz

I didn’t have time to remove the stats.grafana.org from the hosts file, so it is still there.

I have both the additional reporting_enabled: false and entry into the hosts file. Why it finally worked, I don’t understand yet.

@giacomo , I understand what you are saying. I’m not opposed but I do want to know what data is being sent. As a relative newbie and here learning NS8, in part, to take back my privacy, just enabling or allowing “phone home” makes me nervous.

If the documentation would say something that the NS8 devs made a conscious decision to enabled or not change the default behaviour “phone home” for module/container XYZ and an example of what data it sent, then we could easily make the decision and we would understand why Pi-Hole is blocking 20,000+ connection attempts in a day. Usually that is something bad. This thread came about because a few of us, were trying to understand why Pi-Hole is blocking these requests and why the connection attempts suddenly started.

I’m happy to re-enable when I know what is being reported. I’m not opposed to sharing if I know what I’m sharing and why.

It’s really transparent and no personal data, I already posted it:

Here’s again the link to check the data that is sent: loki/pkg/analytics/stats.go at main · grafana/loki · GitHub

Yes it looks pretty innocuous. I’ll enable this weekend.
