NS 7.9 not recieving email

NS 7.9 joind to a Win 2019 DC, will send out email but wont receive it. Port forwarding done and tested, mx records OK. Seems like an internal issue as a user cannot send an email to itself.

Hi @HZK

Why are you attempting to (re-)install an EOL system like NS7.9 to an almost equally dated system like MS Win2019 DC?

You are aware that NS7.9 is EOL since more than 8 Months now!

I can’t help as I have never joined NethServer to a Windows DC, only the other way around: Windows Servers became Member Servers of NS AD.

My 2 cents

Long Story Andy, a company take over, this server has been sitting for a year waiting for a MS365 account to expire, now just want to switch email on to the NS7.9.

Says it cannot see port 25, this any clue?

Using Roundcube webmail I can send an email externally to my email account and it arrives in seconds, but I cannot send an email to myself or any other user on the NethServer 7.9 from roundcube.
I use these guys at Elive for email filtering (but not in this instance) just using my own account to test the DuckDns is working, and you can see below it has connected sucessfully.

I tried to telnet to the duckdns name but it seems blocked, is maybe fail2ban blocking here?

telnet ???.duckdns.org 25
Trying IP...
telnet: connect to address IP: Connection timed out

Let’s check the accounts and aliases if the “michaelmiller” account is listed.

db accounts show

Let’s check postfix config:

config show postfix

I restarted the router there and get a reply from telnet now.
C:\Windows\system32>telnet mmiller2024.duckdns.org 25
220 sm.lvt.liv ESMTP Postfix

But I am thinking thatit’s not an external issue, that the problem is internal to the NS 7 as I cannot email between users on Roundcube webmail.

I still can’t connect but maybe some firewall geoblocking active?

Could it be a case sensitive issue (michaelmiller != MichaelMiller) ?

Let’s check the roundcube config:

config show roundcubemail

Correct, geo block is on where are you?

root@sm ~]# config show roundcubemail
roundcubemail=configuration
PluginsList=managesieve,markasjunk
Server=localhost
access=public
skin=larry

Austria is now unblocked

Telnet is working now.
I sent test mails which seem to work.
Could you try if it works when sending from webtop or sogo?

Are the custom templates?

ls /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/

If you sent it to MichaelMiller@stephenmillerltd.com then notting came through. I am using roundcube on a local virtual PC (NS 7 & this VPC are in the same Proxmox 8)

[root@sm ~]# ls /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/
[root@sm ~]#

This NS 7 was setup a year ago and only used Samba for file shares. First time to try as an email server. I think there is something fundamentally wrong as I cannot send internal emails from one user to another.

I sent to michaelmiller and MichaelMiller.

This is the error I get when I send from my outlook…

This is the mail system at host mx1.elivescanned.net.

Hi there @HZK

I have a strong idea that this is missing…

Both images are from the same productive and working NS8 VM, running on Debian on Proxmox. This system is using BtrFS as File System and AD as account provider.

My strong suspicion is that there is either no correctly configured account provider for mail (The Mail App), or it’s not set, therefore postfix’s internal user list (aliases) is more or less empty…

That would also explain the error message - and also why no incoming mail… :slight_smile:

NS7 also needs an account provider correctly set!
(I do not at the moment have access to NS7 for screenshots!).

My 2 cents
Andy
