Best way - NS8 on VPS --> Nas at home

Hi

My NS server at home broke down so I set up a NS on a VPS services but how to set ut up connections to my three NAS at home?

I’ve an old Zyxel 326, WD Mycloud and the most used Nas is a server with Rockstor and a lot of USB disk.

I properly will set up a NS 8 server at home as well but would like to hear you choice to connect the NS 8 server at VPS with the nas at home.

Service I use for the moment
Odoo
Nextcloud
and working to get mail service to work but then I need to get my Nas connected.

It´s for private use so no business yet. But I’m travelling a lot in my work so I want to get connected with the information at my Nas through Nextcloud.
Use my Rockstor Nas as media server, Jellyfin and Ebooks mainly

Use a cloud server as backup for my nas but I don’t like theirs UI and love the Nextcloud service for my use.

And I don´t want to get more cost than the VPS service for the moment.

Connect for what purpose? If you want to back up to them, relatively easy, as I’ll describe below. If you’re wanting to serve information on the NAS via applications on the NS8 installation, rather more complicated, and performance would be awful. But for backup purposes:

  • Set up a free account at tailscale.com
  • Follow their instructions to install Tailscale on your NS8 system
  • Install Tailscale on your NAS
    • Now your NS8 and your NAS are on the same network
  • Create a SMB share on the NAS for the backups
  • Set up a backup on NS8 to that SMB share

Thanks Why didn´t I thought of Tailscale . I use it on all my computers and servers/nas .
