I’m planning to migrate to version 8 and am conducting some tests first. Here at the company, we use NS as a DHCP server and have a VLAN configured to separate the networks.
NS8 does NOT provide firewall functions like NS7 did. These are all migrated now to NethSecurity8.
This means DNS and DHCP are now on NethSecurity, so are VPNs.
There IS an option for a client side VPN on NS8, but it’s a third party module, mostly intended for cloud based installs (It works without issues!).
There IS also an Option to use the Samba DNS server OR a DNS App to provide DNS, but it’s NOT out of the box!
So you now need at least 2 hosts - or use 2 VMs to accomplish the same.
PS:
As NS8 must be installed on top of an existing Distro (Debian, Rocky, Alma or Centos you can create any needed networking already on the base OS / Distro. All listed ones do support vLANs…
