In France, if there is a data breach involving customers’ personal data, the penalties can be highly dissuasive. You cannot afford to ignore GDPR compliance too

Ah, they are even worse…

I need a NethSecurity ARM device!!

I bought a small PC with 4 NICs for my home setup. It still runs NethServer 7, but only for the firewall part. It cost around €150–€200, though you might find something cheaper. I’m happy with the flexibility it gives me.

This kind of hardware probably isn’t ideal for managing Wi-Fi, so I placed an access point behind it.

Overall, the setup isn’t very cheap, but I don’t feel guilty about it. The Livebox is the weak link and I can’t really trust it, so I put something I trust behind it.

I would like to move to NethSecurity, but I can’t run containers on it.

I know this isn’t a mainstream opinion…
But in my opinion, containers have no place on gateways, firewalls, or NAS. They only unnecessarily increase the complexity of the overall system and create additional attack vectors.
It would be better for such systems to focus on performing their main task as well as possible.

I tend to agree. A firewall should have limited tasks, and should be good at those task only.

yeah it is true, one task, one role

I think this is a too high of a price point for a wide spread deployment. I believe a sweetspot just below 100 coins would be good for all. Inidivdual homes, small business and as a first defense.

Well, if Pihole is considered a container, I would love t, as well as other WAN/LAN security tools. Not sure what is ‘included’ in stock NethSec.
