This is the second time I’ve spent a while looking around for this lock file to try to remove it. For me, my backup is in Backblaze, so that’s where the backup file was and that’s why I couldn’t find it. Deleting the file manually fixed the issue, and was easier than trying to build the correct restic unlock command with all the configuration parameters.
If you face this error and can’t find the lock, look in your remote backup location if you’re using one.
