Smtp email/connection issue?

While trying to send an email I recieved a message that my server is rejecting smtp connections:

Sending of the message failed.
The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) server.domain.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

so I went to /var/log/maillog and found this:

May 30 08:14:51 server postfix/anvil[101999]: statistics: max connection rate 1/60s for (smtp:212.42.218.71) at May 30 08:11:31 May 30 08:14:51 server postfix/anvil[101999]: statistics: max connection count 1 for (smtp:212.42.218.71) at May 30 08:11:31 May 30 08:14:51 server postfix/anvil[101999]: statistics: max cache size 1 at May 30 08:11:31 May 30 08:17:20 server clamd[2342]: SelfCheck: Database status OK.

I performed an IP lookup (https://www.ultratools.com/tools/ipWhoisLookupResult) on 212.42.218.71 and received this:

who is on 54.208.126.254 shows Amazon web services. None of these IP’s are my external IP.

I waited a few minutes and I was able to send my email. Was the log entry and the fact I couldn’t send an email a coincidence? Does anyone know what might be going on here, this is way above my pay grade.
