SAMBA - Restore AD from backup without shared files?

I’ve got the impression that AD issues like lost users did happen more often on NS7 but I didn’t find much issues regarding NS8 AD in the forum.
It’s still a good idea to be able to restore/repair the AD without the shares.

The built-in backup procedure of Nethserver 8 backs up individual containers, so the restore will always affect the entire container?

Yes, that’s true. The restic backup includes the podman volumes for the shares, homes, config etc.

Or can this be limited to individual components, e.g. only the AD-relevant data?

This could be a possible approach as the selective restore of shares is already possible so it maybe “just” needs to be adapted to restore the AD.

wouldn’t it be more practical to separate the AD (including homes) and file shares into containers?

Or even just have a separate AD and have all file shares (homes and shares) separately as containers?
