Restart after upgrade

NethServer Version: NethServer 7.8.2003
Module: OS

Hello,

I just upgraded my production server to NethServer 7.8.2003.

After upgrade I read uptime as following:
21:59:22 up 32 days, 6:18, 2 users, load average: 0.04, 0.16, 0.33

I also read that CenOS version is bumped to 7.8 in /etc/centos-release
CentOS Linux release 7.8.2003 (Core)

It was over VPN connection that I did upgrade and I did not see if I am asked any questions after it completes (My computer went to sleep while I was away). My question is:

Is NethServer upgrade asking for a reboot? Is it us that should reboot the server in order to actually start using new OS version?

Thanks & regards,
Ertan

Hi

If you can, it’s never a bad idea to reboot after a big update/upgrade…

My 2 cents

SME erred on one side–after pretty much anything, it told you it had to reboot (it was almost as bad as Windows). Neth errs on the other side–it never tells you to reboot, even when you should (at a minimum, you need to reboot to start using a new kernel). Not sure how to dial this in better.

Usually you need to reboot only after a kernel update, but it’s not mandatory.

There is a tool called need-restarting: check it out https://access.redhat.com/discussions/2485141
