Redis Adopts Dual source license

I understand NS8 uses Redis significantly, and that many apps with posgres implementation at some point make use of Redis.

Woke up to the news that redis adopts a dual source licnese Redis Adopts Dual Source-Available Licensing | Redis

Not sure how this impacts things

Is it time to start looking into KEyDB KeyDB - The Faster Redis Alternative

as well as

DragonFlyDb Dragonfly - The Fastest In-Memory Data Store (dragonflydb.io)

Seems like histroy repeating itself with opensource projects, Happened with mongoDB, Happened with ElasticSearch, with terraform and Opentofu and now Redis in the picture.

I dont think it affect Nethserver, but hey, what gives, could it?

Not much time later… someone started a fork of Redis:

This is a fork of Redis 7.2.4 following the announcement that Redis would switch to a non-free license.

This fork is intended to be backwards-compatible with Redis 7.2.4 and then to diverge from then onwards. It should work as a drop-in replacement for Redis 7.2.4, but compatibility with later versions of Redis is not guaranteed.

Time will tell…

Now Linux Foundation has forked Redis because of the license change:
