Question regarding MultiWAN Link-Down-Detection

Hi,
in the docs is written

To determine the status of a provider, the system sends an ICMP packet (ping) at regular intervals. If the number of dropped packets exceeds a certain threshold, the provider is disabled.

But: What is pinged to determinate the down-status? The Gateway? Something on the internet?

Im my case I have a Standard-Router and behind this Router the Nethserver. If the gateway is pinged, I will not recognize that the internet connection may be down and will not switch to the backup link.

IPs on the Check IP field.

Each interface can be checked using multiple IPs

If no IP is specified (recommended option), the system will uses well-known default IPs (Google DNS and OpenDNS).
