Openvpn logrotate Broken

(Eddie Atherton) #1

The last update to the /etc/logrotate.d/openvpn file really breaks the compressing and rotating of the OpenVPN logs.

The specification: /var/log/openvpn/* causes previously compressed logs to be compressed and rotated again:

-rw------- 1 root root 0 May 21 08:09 openvpn.log
-rw------- 1 root root 296 Apr 21 09:03 openvpn.log-20180421.gz-20180520.gz
-rw------- 1 root root 1059 Apr 24 08:18 openvpn.log-20180424.gz-20180520.gz
-rw------- 1 root root 0 May 20 07:24 openvpn.log-20180429.gz
-rw------- 1 root root 901 Apr 29 08:02 openvpn.log-20180429.gz-20180520.gz
-rw------- 1 root root 0 May 20 07:24 openvpn.log-20180507.gz
-rw------- 1 root root 302 May 7 05:23 openvpn.log-20180507.gz-20180520.gz
-rw------- 1 root root 0 May 20 07:24 openvpn.log-20180513.gz
-rw------- 1 root root 1154 May 11 17:14 openvpn.log-20180513.gz-20180520.gz
-rw------- 1 root root 278 May 20 14:16 openvpn.log-20180521.gz

Probably needs to be updated to: /var/log/openvpn/*.log. But that begs the question, should the “status” log be rotated, because that one is updated in place.

Cheers.

Thanks a lot @EddieA for your detailed report!
I’ve just opened an issue about that:

The RPM is ready to be tested, would you like to give it a try?
