I just want to report that with half a dozen of NS8 VMs based on Rocky there were problems with one or the other NS8 app.
So, after all I created 2 VMs in Proxmox based on Debian 13 with parameters meeting the NS8 requirements. Then I installed in each VM NS8 with the curl command (see NS docs) and made one VM the leader node and the other one the worker node.
Everything went fast and smooth and all desired apps - including the nethsecuritty controller which never worked before could be installed without any problems.
Maybe this has to do with the fact that Proxmox VE and these two VMs use the same platform.
I don’t know. But I’m happy after all.
Glad you got everything working — two clean nodes with all the apps (including the NethSecurity controller) installing without a hitch is a great result.
That said, I’d be cautious drawing a general conclusion about Rocky vs Debian. Rocky Linux VMs on Proxmox are a very common combination for NS8, and plenty of people run that setup fine, so I doubt it’s a platform/hypervisor compatibility issue. More likely something specific to your previous Rocky VMs (image, cloud-init, storage backend, network config, leftover state) rather than Rocky itself.
If you still have logs from the failed installs — especially from the NethSecurity controller failures — it’d be worth posting them so we can check if this is a real bug or a one-off on your side. Let’s see if others report similar issues with Rocky + Proxmox.
Debian 13 is fully compatible with NS8, so no problem sticking with that if it’s working well for you.
