Hi All,
I’ve read migration steps and realize that they are given for a more complex scenario. I have only one NethServer 7 box. I have a separate pfSence firewall with DNS Resolver pointing to my NethServer as an AD DC. NethServer has 3TB shared drive and a backup running once a week (backing up the entire setup with user files). I don’t have any other hardware able to match that.
Do I understand the instructions correctly, that I need to purchase/build another identical NethServer, but already NS8, and then migrate my live NS7 server to it?
Is there a way I could backup/restore NS7→NS8 settings, or use an existing backup to restore user files and settings from NS7 to NS8 without building another server?
I’m thinking to do it with the least expenses: purchase a new (maybe larger) drive, shutdown NS7, install a new drive, connect the old one for the migration procedure. If something goes wrong – just put the old drive in and run the old server. I could use a weekend for this procedure without disturbing anybody’s workflow.
Is this a viable option, or I have to build another server?
Sincerely,
Sasha
