Nethserver8 to work as same scenario like Neth7

We are using Nethserver 7 for 5 years for my small home server. And we are willing to update those systems with Nethserver 8.

I installed on Proxmox environment and configured following thins as it was in Neth7,

  1. Active directory Samba DC
  2. File server
  3. Dnsmasq

But the experience of Dnsmasq is different than i thought it was in Neth7. I installed Samba domain and Dnsmasq but the server has internet while the clients who are connecting with 2nd nic have not internet connection , but IP address and gateway are taken from dhcp of dnsmasq (Neth8).

My question is there any method to have clients to get internet connection via nic2 of the server like we have done in Neth7?

NethServer 8 isn’t a router/gateway anymore, it’s an application server. The gateway services were moved to NethSecurity.

As you are using Proxmox you could install a NethSecurity VM as gateway providing DHCP/DNS and connect the clients to it’s second virtual LAN interface to provide the internet connection.
And you could install a NethServer 8 VM connected to the virtual LAN interface that provides Samba DC and file server, see also User domains — NS8 documentation

hi Markuz, i have followed your advice and installation is done as you explained.

Now i have to study bit more about nethsecurity bcos this is 100% new to me.

i will update through the rest of the process, thanks a lot.
