Hi NethServerians,

we’ve had an internal discussion about how Nethesis can support potential app developers for NethServer. Thanks to the availability of @mrmarkuz and @stephdl, we’re ready to launch version 0.1 of the program.

If you’re interested in joining the program, feel free to reply to this thread — we’ll get back to you with all the details.

Goal:

Support app developers in a sustainable way, encouraging quality, collaboration, and alignment with the NethServer project.

  • Coordinator: Alessio
    Leads the program and ensures alignment with the project’s vision.

  • Mentors:

    • MrMarkuz

    • StephDL
      Provide direct technical support and guidance.

  • Second-Level Mentor:

    • Davide Principi
      Offers architectural advice and ensures consistency with the platform’s direction.

:bullseye: Who Can Join

Developers who:

  • Have built or plan to build apps for NethServer 8.

  • Are interested in certifying their apps and working closely with the community.

:toolbox: Profile: Dev Starter

What you get:

  • 1 free VPS for 6 months (DigitalOcean or similar).

  • Technical mentorship from experienced community members.

  • Visibility on the NethServer website and in community channels.

  • Direct contact with the core team for feedback and collaboration.

What we ask:

  • Certify at least 1 app within 6 months. Following our Certification Process

  • Maintain active contribution: app updates, community support, new features.

  • Align with NethServer standards for quality and security.

  • Participate in discussions and feedback loops with mentors and the team.

What you get (in addition to Dev Starter benefits):

  • Small financial contributions to cover travel expenses (FOSDEM, Nethesis Annual Meeting).

  • Priority in testing, early access to updates, and more visibility for your work.

  • Deeper involvement in defining app roadmaps or community tools.

What we ask:

  • Maintain 2 or more certified apps.

  • Show consistent and proactive involvement over time.

  • Demonstrate strong alignment with the project’s vision and roadmap.

It’s probably time I get with the program with an NS8 app or two. Right now, I have automx2 in mind:

To provide MUA autoconfiguration, as RepoView: DanB35 Repo did previously.

I’m not sure I’d have a need for the VPS; I can spin up VMs locally without much trouble. But not quite sure where I’d start with this; automx2 doesn’t appear to be available in a Docker container.

I hadn’t found that, so that’s good to know. I’m not sure, though, about using a third-party image–though if there isn’t an official image, I guess it’d either be an unofficial one that I build, or an unofficial one that someone else builds.

I’d try the existing one and if it lacks some features, you still can build your own or customize the existing one.

I would love to join, although the situation Venezuela is going through moments of tension in the United States. I would like to know if somehow I could be part of it

I didn’t think it would be part of NethServer. I thought it would be internal applications for NethServer.
