You have my pity. Probably all the time you thought you were using an Open Source firewall…
PFsense was also much slower than OPNsense in getting a working WG VPN…
The fools actually poisoned the freeBSD repo with their broken version of WG.

Andy
@Andy_Wismer why do you use NS8 then?
Not my choice, forced by IBM / RedHat if you so want.
They broke their word.
Simple!
NS8 is a different beast, but it’s still an upgrade from NS7.
NethSecurity is a complete new product, on a new base.
And - a firewall always carries more weight than a “server”.

Objection! And Phoenix Wrigth stands by me
Both roles carry a big weight, if you’re conscious enough.
On one side, firewall software have to carry all the traffic from-to a network.
On the other side, server software is there to serve and protect all sensitive informations of the companies.
It’s a mutual relationship, they both need each other and they both have to play it safe, because the “sensitive target” is data. And both need to play good with that.
I have clients with firewalls, but no servers.
I have clients with servers AND firewalls!
I have NO clients with “just” servers, NO firewalls…

One size fits one. Like me and you are…
How can you use real networking and firewalla in the same post.
That stuff isn’t even remote to real networking just overpriced hardware with a mobile app and outdated packages they don’t care about.
Currently I use opnsense at home, I’ve install nethsecurity 8 in a vm for some tests, I really like the gui, and maybe I will drive it for some time here just to test how it works.
Opnsense has a lot more options, but then again it has been out a lot longer then nethsecurity so i’m not sure if it is a fair comparison.
Firewalla does what I need. Vlans and monitoring. The phone app is a plus.
Again, I used pfsense for a long time, The interface was confusing. Setting up wire guard was a pain in the ass. Ids IPS don’t work because of encrypted traffic, so those are worthless without a internal CA and certificates being installed everywhere. More pain in the ass.
I needed a firewall that could set up vlans and report on user activity. Firewalla does this the best. It is a real firewall. I have high doubts that you own one.
And as it sits, Firewalla has one of the nicest user interfaces on the markert, hands down.
Here ya go. You’ll wish / want this info OPNsense with such a nice design and user interface. You’ll never go back to shitty half baked dashboards and logs.
Or you can pay sensei for it. But at that point you’ll out weight the cost of a Firewalla in due time.
And
Toys for boys who don’t understand firewalls…

Incorrect. It does in fact serve it’s purpose as intended, a firewall. But feel free to keep your 2 cents and your opinion, it’s pointless comment.
My 2 cents
Ben.
Not really. Anyone needing ANY form of security (Firewall) and also understanding security would NEVER use a third party, external Cloud system, nor provide such third party data-resellers with any network live data!
I’ld probably bet my last dollar they sell your data.
But for your Home System, the illusion of security is probably enough, considering your background and know-how levels…
(Needing a GUI for vLANs?)
Not really - it’s intended as a warning against “snake oil”…
My 2 cents

PS:
You started pushing a baby level commercial firewall replacement - this is an open source forum.
I doubt anyone here woud even consider Firewalla as an option!
I know you are sometimes busy and stacked with work, and I am sure you get breathers here and there, so I know you had stated sometime back you were going to try to do a serious test, including a testimonial of NethSecurity 8. Just curious, did you ever get a chance to test NethSecurity 8?
From your perspective, I am interested to hear about that serious test and testimonial, along with I hope a full analysis and review of what you think about NethSecurity 8. From Download, Install, Configuration to DNS / DHCP / NAT/ Zones / Polices to Content filtering / Threat Shield / to Dashboard / Reports / Logs.
If you haven’t, I hope you get a chance to dig in to it and give feedback.
I think someone heard you out: A NethSecurity 8 Installation Attempt
yes, we Have, and it was great feedback actually provided my Andy, considering his firewall implementation experience.
I am actually more tempted to get myself a firewall box, to try it out, and play around with it.
it is feedback like these, that hlep shape the community and the product. Jsut lik Nextcloud before, used to have shitty updates and upgrades, and some functions not coherent, they have imporved alot.
so will NS8 and Nethsec
I actually did finally get down to doing a serious, neutral test - on native hardware even!
