LAN bridge in default configuration

Hi,

what is the reason for the default configuration with the firewall LAN zone with a bridge device and the network card eth0 in this bridge? Is this necessary? Or are there any pros and cons for this default setup?

The LAN bridge is not necessary, you can remove it if you just use 1 LAN port.
I think it’s default because people are more used to having more LAN ports.
