I have a new Nethserver 8 installation, and all email going outside the server works great, but any mail sent internally is sending to user.name@ad.domain.com instead of user.name@domain.com, which obviously doesn’t exist. Causing them to get stuck in the queue, and not move.
This is mainly happening when sending to groups, but seems to happen occasionally to users (depending on the sender)
How do I fix this?

Is Dovecot running? Did you start it at the end of migration?

Let’s gather more information
To restart Dovecot
runagent -m mail1 systemctl --user restart dovecot
So the strange part is that it’s not every email, and it’s not every user, but it’s persistent enough that it’s causing issues with deliverability. For example, I have a user group that is working flawlessly, but the email I included earlier that bounced, the user that sent it is a member of the group that he sent it to, so he should have just gotten a copy of his email. Instead it bounced.
I do not have SOGo or WebTop installed, and the user reported he sent that email from RoundCube.
There can be log messages from Dovecot. Please try to filter the Mail log with that string.

Sending to individual users seems to not be as much of an issue, it’s when you send to a group, but again it’s not every single group.
I just tried replying to an email sent to a group I’m in by car3@domain.com, and when I replied to it this is what the message in the mail queue shows for that message:

I just received the email (notice I’m on the reply), but it still shows in the mail queue as having failed. Mind you this isn’t in the logs, this is in the mail queue itself.
Maybe some group expansion fails.
Can you send a screenshot of the chiefs group definition in Addresses page?
Are they all AD users?
All of the group addresses are made up of their AD user counter part. Similar to how it was in NS7. If a user is part of a group, and that group has an address, each of them gets a copy of the email.

Each of the names you see under chiefs are user accounts (1st Asst Chief is Car3@domain.com)
I’m eager to get this resolved as this instance serves a fire department, and email communications are mission critical communications. This issue was noticed about a day and a half ago, and we don’t know how long it’s been going on because it’s only affecting certain groups of users.
What about the AD setup? How many DCs, are they Samba or MS, internal or external?
Can you exclude any possible error in configuration like mail-loops?
I still don’t grasp the issue origin, but if you want to make an attempt, let’s try to add this custom value:
lmtp_destination_recipient_limit = 1

Do you use mail quotas? Is any user mailbox full? 2.3.1 with quota and lmtp; message may be sent more than once
So as quickly as this started happening, it stopped.
All emails are now working as they’re expected to. After digging through the logs, it appeared as if it was trying to relay through itself. Given that it was trying to use ad.domain.com as it’s relay host.
Either way, it seems to be working now.
Off topic, any chance there is a way to put a feature in for mail disclaimer configurations? I’d like to be able to add these for all email leaving the domain, and have a specific one for an individual domain.
Not within Mail itself because altering the message can invalidate DKIM signing.
IIRC WebTop has this feature. It is a feature that is handled better by the mail client than the server.
We need to unfortunately have it done server side, so we’ll have to look at setting up an internal relay that appends it to the email body depending on who the recipient is.
