I am the brother of Andy Wismer. I live in Singapore and met Andy only every few years. My daughter actually found this thread and shared with me.
Reading through the messages, I would like to thank all of you for your kind words. I was sometimes worried that Andy was lonely in Switzerland, but I see he found a close group of like-minded, passionate IT people.
Andy did not have an easy life, and had a number of health issues which ultimately caused his passing. He did find his 2 passions in life – his cats and IT. You all were his community, you were his life.
I saw someone mention a compilation of all the messages and pictures on this thread, and that would be much appreciated. My email is gateway.mw@gmail.com
I wish you all the best, and once again, thank you for being a group of friends for Andy.
Thank you so much for your kind words @Marcel - I believe all the members of this community are missing @Andy_Wismer each and every day since he passed.
He stays in our memories - His countless contributions continue to shape our community and constitute his legacy.
I’ll try to compile the tributes left here and maybe also some of his best rants (anybody has an idea about this ?)
Since a few weeks ago I started downloading my conversations with Andy, including many photos of him and his pets. I will try to share with you Marcel.
Does anyone know what fate his pets have met?
Darius was the first one I met and I’ve been worried about him and Ginger and Ale too.
I never met Andy, we were really close to do so this year and unfortunately at the last minute he could not attend the meeting in Italy.
Internet is a curious thing, you can find the worse or the best. in my case without seeing the people I succeed to create links with people living over the seas or even closer but with culture and different languages.
Andy did it, continuously, sharing, helping, suggesting without tiredness. Andy was not a coder, Andy was a network builder with an immense knowledge, we miss him
Friends, my heart is in mourning today. Andy, a being of light, has left us. He was a great friend, an unconditional supporter, and a source of inspiration. He encouraged me to fight for my parents’ health, to never give up in the face of adversity. Andy saw life harshly, but always with hope. He invited me to his country, but circumstances prevented me from doing so. His passing leaves an immense void. I will miss him deeply.
I learned about Andy through email. He was one of the people who reassured me with his words, just like @capote. I asked Alessio to remove me from the community so I wouldn’t bother them anymore. I logged in to share my thoughts with an admirable man who wanted to help me in every way he could and was amazed at how a person like me struggles alone. Andy, you will be my best friend forever. Honor to a soul, an angel like all of you.
