I’m sad to report that Andy passed away on March 23.
He has been a great ambassador, always helping others with technical challenges. His posts were full of details, reflecting his deep knowledge of Linux and networking.
He had a good sense of humor, and he made our community feel like a real group of friends. We will miss his words, his help, and his presence very much.
Oh no. That’s so sad and a big shock. He was always so helpful and I’m going to really miss his support. I wondered why he’d gone silent
Sending my love to his family and all the team…
I can’t believe it… Andy was so helpful and dedicated. A month ago I was still discussing with him when he helped me restore a stubborn OVH server. He had a bad back pain but was feeling better.
He had a true sense of the community and fraternity.
There are things and people that you can no longer imagine your life without one day. They become a matter of course in the best sense of the word, they simply belong.
And when this happens, completely unexpectedly, it is not only a shock, you suddenly realize that a gap has been created that no one will be able to fill.
This applies least to his professional contributions; he will simply be missed as a person with a big heart.
Rest in peace andy, thank for all you have done here, seriously, freely with no ideas of something back. Just because you could do it.
People like you have made the opensource possible, not by the code but by the help to the community.
wow… that comes like a hard hit. i had my problems with his humor then and when but his knowledge and his helpful soul was inspiring, RIP @Andy_Wismer we will miss you.
This is a very sad day. I have no words. I don’t know what to say.
We’ve lost an important part of our community—a true lover of Open Source and NethServer.
We had so many discussions together, we exchanged ideas countless times on countless topics: technical decisions on the products, how to manage the community, how to moderate discussions.
Andy was one of the smartest people I’ve ever met, with profound technical knowledge, paired with an unmatched sense of humor and generosity.
A true community man.
Was he a bit harsh sometimes? Sure, he had his beliefs and never held back his sharp takes—his legendary 2 cents. But all of this, like it or not, was part of who Andy was. And we loved him for it.
Let’s not forget that beyond the screens, and our keyboards, there are people.
And behind those people are their stories.
Today it’s hard to wake up without our Swiss watch of support.
We miss you, Major Andy.
Rest in peace.
p.s. Numbers don’t tell the story of a person, but I just want to remind you how much this person gave to all of us—through his time and his patience.
