Bitnami has made changes to how their Images work, and we need to find alternatives for our use cases
Upcoming changes to the Bitnami catalog (effective August 28th, 2025) · Issue #83267 · bitnami/containers
Yes, in my case it’s Moodle and Zammad.
Zammad already changed their bitnami elasticsearch to use the one from docker.io/library
As regards Moodle, the app needs to be rewritten to use other images as both mariadb and moodle used a bitnami image.
webserver for php-fpm ![]()
Webtop uses bitnami apache, see ns8-webtop/build-images.sh at main · NethServer/ns8-webtop · GitHub
i think Home | LinuxServer.io can be a good alternative, for cases where official is not available, or conformed to our needs
They Have a huge library of images Images | LinuxServer.io
Is there a reason why the image library of Docker can not be used?
official images are used, where feasible, other times, the official images just dont get things done, for what we need, thats why for example we made our own image for glpi, erpnext among others
they want money ![]()
Clearly. But it’s amazing how many words they used to say, “we’re moving most of our images behind a paywall.”
I fixed webserver and webtop today, using the php official images for webserver and the official httpd image for webtop, waiting the review for now
the images are really nice with a lot of options inside, clearly for a kubernetes cluster it worth the money if you deliver services, but here we are playing the opensource and I cannot afford to give access to these images
Reminds me of Softaculous, and Subsequently Amps project, they literally depend on Opensource images and products, for their business model to work, however they decided to make their decisions around how they price and bill.
Surely, its Ok to take from Opensource, but its not Ok when how much you’re giving back makes no sense.
Today an Apparent “Opensource” Project has been Put on notice on twitter, for using an FS MIT license, Never knew something like that existed, this was after someone forked the project for fun, and received an DMCA takedown notice on github. Whoosh. After taking all those contributions from community.
Just curious, were these already updated to use a different source if at all possible? And others that use the Bitami images.
No, sorry, too much on the todo list. I’ll report here when they’re updated…
JFY, apps that are currently broken are categorized with status ‘Broken’ on the wiki.
This is helpful thanks
restest erpnext, it shouldnt be in broke category
Somebody needs to verify: install, basic functionality, backup, restore and remove.
At some point in time one of these was reported not working correctly, but was never fixed or verified fixed.
When I have time, I will test next week.
General kind reminder. Which apps are updated to be taken off ‘broken’ status please?
@genius repository we do not have any bitnami images
