Hi,
welcome to NethServer community.
OpenLDAP doesn’t provide network shares so If you like use network shares and access for example your home share from Windows Explorer, a Samba Active Directory user domain is needed, see User domains — NS8 documentation
If it’s just about accessing the home directory you could use an SCP client like WinSCP or scp on command line.
Hello Markus,
thanks for the quick help. At the moment I still have Nethserver 7.9 installed and have moved my personal data to the home directory. This would be possible with the Samba Active Directory, but I can’t get the dns for the webtop.domain and nextcloud.domain to work.
Kind regards
If you have a network appliance (e.g. a NethSecurity device, your ISP router, or one of the many affordable firewall/router appliances available on the market) that supports DNS conditional forwarding, use it as your LAN DNS. The Samba AD zone must be configured on that appliance for conditional zone forwarding.
If you don’t have such an appliance, see this thread:
Apart from the above solutions, alternative approaches could be explored in the future to make the Samba and DNSMasq apps work together on the same NS8 node. DNSMasq supports conditional forwarding, but since they conflict on the default DNS port (53), one of the following workarounds can be tried:
