/etc/rc.d/rc.local is not marked executable, skipping

Distribution: Rocky-9.2
NethServer Version: 8 beta
Module: none installed yet.

Quite often, I noticed on the server sreen, this kind of line repeated:

system-rc-local-generator[2603]: /etc/rc.d/rc.local is not marked executable, skipping

It looks like the system is trying to do something with rc.local.

QUESTION:
Is that important ?

Michel-André

I think you can ignore it: AFAIK rc.local is just for backward compatibility with previous distro versions. NethServer 8 does not use it at all.

Hi @davidep

Thank you for your reply.

I don’t mind at all in a Beta version, but aesthetically speaking those lines shouldn’t appear in a RC or Master version.

Michel-André

Silencing a single log message at boot doesn’t seem to me a sufficient reason to change that configuration file. Consider also that such change should be ported and tested on every other distro… So the general rule in NS8 development is: do not touch it unless it’s really necessary.

However some eye candies could be added to images, with no hurry at all.

Hi @davidep

I totally agreed with you and that is why I wrote that “I don’t mind at all in a Beta version”.

Michel-André

You could consider it as a distro/systemd bug too. Maybe someone is fixing it
