Confused about SMTP Proxy Module

NethServer Version: NethServer release 7.9.2009 (final)
Module: SMTP Proxy

As a description of this module, in Software Center is written: “Filter SMTP traffic with ClamAV and Rspamd”.
Nowhere in NethServer documentation is written about this module.

Moreover, in already installed Email module, in the About section, we find: “Provides SMTP, IMAP and POP3 services with antispam and antivirus filters”, and in Filter section we find Rspamd and Antivirus (ClamAV).

Also, ClamAV is enabled by default to provide Email protection (Applications -> Antivirus (Nethserver antivirus using ClamAV) -> Settings).

Questions:

  • what is the function of the SMTP Proxy module?
  • for an email server, this module must be installed?
  • if yes, how will interact with Email module?
  • is this module “a ghost” from older NS versions?

TIA for your answers!
Kind regards,
Gabriel

An SMTP proxy
It’s just a part of the mail server stack, more or less postifix + rspamd.

You can install it on a firewall machine to protect and internal mail server, like and exchange one.

It’s already installed.

No

PS

Do you think it should be added to the NethServer documentation?
There is no reference about this module.

I really do not know :man_shrugging:
