I have a little concern about the base version of Samba 4.19.5, which is now 2 years away from its initial release and is considered EOL. Is there any plans of switching to more up to date version sometime?
Otherwise its working flawlessly, but we could benefit of tons of security and performance fixes.
The Samba 4.19.5 version included in the NS8 Samba application is built on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble). The application image is regularly rebased on the official Ubuntu Noble upstream image.
The NS8 Samba application was released on January 31 using this base.
In short, the Samba application benefits from Ubuntu Noble security updates and fixes, even if the upstream Samba version number itself does not change. The application will be upgraded when moving to the next Ubuntu LTS release, ensuring long-term stability and timely security patches.
