What type of updates need server reboot?

NethServer Version: 7.8.2003
Module: all of them

Hello,

I frequently receive updates in software section. Mostly they are related with NethServer core, manager etc. Sometimes there are system module updates, too.

I wonder if such updates needs server reboot to start working.

Is there a way to identify if I need to reboot server or not by the name/group of updates?

It is not a problem for me to reboot my servers at all. Several minutes of downtime is not important for my use case (mostly used for gateway, dhcp server & VPN server).

Thanks & Regards,
Ertan

Any relevant services should be restarted when the updates are installed. The only updates that would really call for a reboot would be kernel updates.

This won’t update the kernel, however only hardware or security issues need to reboot on the new kernel. I do play with long uptime and it is a cry time when I do reboot
