WebTop groupware on NethServer

I agree with the points you make. I have tried for many years to get people and companies I know to move from proprietary protocols and products to free and open source software.
The question I am frequently asked is, can they migrate their data (and also, if the they are unhappy later, can they export their data from the open source product they have chosen).

I also realize that NS and SoGo is not a direct Exchange replacement in the sense of Outlook connectivity, but it does offer the same functionality and could replace Exchange if users used a web client such as SoGo or WebTop (or Thunderbird and Lightening). In fairness to Outlook it does offer many ways of exporting data as well as pst files. However if we want open source groupware to get a greater ā€œmarket shareā€, data import /export, in my view, needs to be simple and reliable.
I suspect that many installations of open source servers and group-ware are in places that are trying to escape vendor lock-in and high licensing costs. Many such places have lots of historical data that need to be migrated.
Just my thoughts,
Tom

I agree with you @Tom, it is important to have the ability to import historical data to facilitate migration

I just posted a HowTo be tested for the export of email, contacts and calendars from .pst files to Nethserver / Webtop: HowTo for Import PST to Nethserver/Webtop

I was off-line for the last while (enjoying Christmas!).
Thanks for the links to the HowTo. I will get my hands on a few pst files in the next week or so and try the process.

Sure @Tom I hope you have a Merry Christmas past :yum:
Let me know how you are and if you have suggestions for improving the scripts.
Thanks for your interest !

@tom we can move forward with this discussion here:

Perfect. I have been doing some testing on data transfer from different
systems and servers.
At the moment, I use a Raspberry Pi as my home server. It has been running
for a few years and has proved very reliable. At the moment it is running
Arch Linux and I am using Zarafa for groupware. I use web access in
Firefox and also have active sync to Iphone and Android. It all works very
well.
Just in the last few days I succeeded in connecting to it from Outlook 2013
using active sync.
I saved my data on the windows machine in a pst file.
Just today I have also got Outlook to connect to NethServer also using
active sync protocol.
I imported pst and copied the data to Nethserver /SoGo (as the default
syncs with SoGo)
The Contacts worked OK but Mail and Calendar did not. Much of this (I
think ) related to the limitations of the Outlook 2013 implementation of
active sync.

I will try your scripts shortly and see if I can import into WebTop.
My pst is about 8 Mb ( i think) and has about 1000 contacts 500 Calendar
items and 100 mails.
I will post how I get on in the forum.

Regards,
Tom

Activesync support for Outlook 2013 isnā€™t very stable, works better with mobile devices.
