PHP8 has been released

Today PHP8 has been released. But I think, knowing the reserved attitude of RH/CentOS towards new major versions, It won’t be available on CentOS any time soon.
Anyway, still good to see new versions of major FLOSS projects.

Microsof has stated NOT to support php8

We are not, however, going to be supporting PHP for Windows in any capacity for version 8.0 and beyond.

Cool, not sure we could have it in the software collection…damn

We are stuck with rh-php73 in the software collection, we could imagine to sync remi-safe repository and use it in nethserver-httpd-virtualhost one day.

However I am sure that php8 is not yet a mandatory

I am dreaming aloud, if we install php80|php74 from remi-stable, then we could find an eastern egg in nethserver-http-virtualhost to use the php80|php74 SCL of remi in the apache virtualhost of our choice.

If I put on my pragmatic glasses, I see that php7.2 runs out of support in 2 days. 7.3 runs out in 1 year.
IMO we must make php7.4 and php8 available as soon as possible to have a sustainable web services platform.

I updated a cmsimple site on a Nethserver and noticed it’s ready for PHP8. After activating PHP8 in server-manager it worked as expected!
