Ns8-forgejo testing

Hi all,
I’ve made an NS8 module for Forgejo (https://forgejo.org). Still in testing, so it’s not in my module repo yet — if you want to try it:
add-module ghcr.io/dz00te/forgejo:latest 1

Repo: GitHub - dz00te/ns8-forgejo: Forgejo module for NethServer 8 · GitHub

Some notes:

  • SMTP will be auto configured if the NS8 smarthost is active
  • the admin user can’t be “admin” (suggested default forgejo-admin)
  • DB is SQLite
  • no auto LDAP integration
  • user auto registration disabled (if needed enable it in module settings)

I mainly built this to use it at home. I’m still figuring out whether Forgejo is even a good fit as an NS8 module: it has so many configurable env options (mailer, webhooks, Actions, etc.), and whether PostgreSQL could be a better option.

Feedback welcome, thx

I remember a Digital Hero event, unfortunately, I can’t remember which year. Markus was probably there.

We went outside for a smoke, and we were talking about NethServer 7 modules on Cockpit. It feels like an eternity ago.

At some point I asked you:

“So, when are we going to see your Nethgui modules on NethServer 7/Cockpit?”

And I still remember your answer:

“JavaScript is for real developers. I just hack PHP.”

You looked almost sorry about it.

And now I see you coding container orchestration modules with a Vue.js interface and a Python/Bash backend.

Well played, mate. What a journey.

And thanks for all the work you’ve put into it.

Sorry, I’m already using Forgejo on Proxmox LXC to synchronize my LLM wiki across different computers. It works well.
