Netify premium files persist after deactivation

Hey everyone,

I noticed something while testing Netify Premium, and I’m wondering if anyone else has run into this - or if it could potentially be a problem.

When you activate Netify Premium, it downloads updated versions of the netify-apps.conf and netify-categories.json files, which include all the premium application and category data. So far, so good.

But then I tried deactivating Netify Informatives again, and I saw that those premium files remained on the system - they weren’t removed or replaced with the standard versions.

Now I’m wondering: since those premium files no longer get updates after deactivation, could that eventually lead to false positives or misclassifications? For example, outdated app IDs or categories staying in the system and causing incorrect traffic detection?

Is that something to be concerned about? Or is there a cleanup step I might be missing?

Thanks!

Best regards

This is indeed weird, this could be on the netifyd side of things, I’ll try and ask them if they are aware of the issue.

If you can access the cli, do you mind restarting netifyd and see if the changes apply?

/etc/init.d/netifyd restart

Hi, I’ve tried to restart netifyd and tried with a reboot. The “premium” list stays:

root@fw2:~# ls -lh /rom/etc/netify.d/netify-apps.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 135.2K Feb 4 00:09 /rom/etc/netify.d/netify-apps.conf
root@fw2:~# ls -lh /etc/netify.d/netify-apps.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1.4M Jul 10 20:10 /etc/netify.d/netify-apps.conf

Wait, do you have an active community subscription at my.nethserver.com?
The list of the applications are tied to the subscription of the firewall, so if you do have an active subscription (even a trial one), you will have automatically all the applications to filter from.
