It seems I got it. It’s clearly a migration problem.
I yum autoremoved hylafax+ hylafax±client nethserver-hylafax. I killed faxgetty which I was before not able to do. I moved the migrated hylafax directory to another name. I reinstalled nethserver-hylafax. Config show hylafax was before and after untouched. I enabled in the old server-manager in the hyla-server tab the send reports box just to see how the process works. A tail -f /var/log/messages shows NO ERRORS at least for hylafax. faxstat is showing now

Modem ttyS3 (+49.(0)7032.): Running and idle
Testcall was successfull. Now I will issue the pending updates. Hopefully the config survives.

Updating went through - config is alive. Fax is running and idle.
