NethServer Version: your_version
Module: your_module
Hi Everybody.
In the school where I work, I have to find a solution to replace the server Windows 2008. I see Nethserver as a possible solution, but I wonder how the windows 10 clients will connect to Nethserver. How the users can open a session and be authenticated ? Will I have to install a plugin like pGina on each client ? What is the best way to manage this ?
Thanks for your time.
Similar to a windows AD domain, you can choose the Samba4 AD account provider with NethServer. This will give you a Samba4 based Active Directory. You can create users and add computers to the domain.
There are a few limitations like multiple DC and nested OU’s that are problematic, but in general, if you don’t have a realy fancy structure, NethServer pretty much can do what Windows Server can do.
You could start by installing NethServer in your current domain and see what roles NethServer can take over from Windows Server.
If you have specific questions, please do come back with them and we will try to solve them with you. We are very eager to have examples of documented real life migrations of Windows Server to NethServer so others can benefit from these experiences too.
Also, consider a search.
Into the community was already asked (and answered) for create an AD and manage it via RSAT tools so maybe you can find a lot on what practice and create a test setup.
I thank you for your replies. I will now have a closer look at all the stuff.
