I’m using in a few use cases OpenMediaVault as File Server. In 2 cases as VM, in two cases as Hardware on Odroid H3+ with 2x 16 TB Seagate Exos disks…

Works very well.

Yes, usually file server but also some mail server. Can you give me some (Distribution?) names?

As file server I use Truenas Scale, which is based on the zfs filesystem and works well for me (zfs is great, but requires to learn the concept). It also provides a basic hypervisor which allows to run some VMs, e.g. to host NS8 .

Alternatively, there is openmediavault and XigmaNAS, but I don’t have much experience with them.

Neth7 is isolated working as filesserver (AD). In front OPNsense handling all certs (haproxy, acme challenge), emails are done with mailcow. Simply works.
