Did you think it can run Nethserver.smoothly?

They mention it can run pfSense. pfSense is *BSD, but if it can run pfSense, it most likely can run NS too. Only thing that could be a problem is storage. You probably will need some box that can serve as Fileserver.

For a minimum NethServer install, as a Firewall only router with a little proxy cache…
I think this stuff is pretty cool, much more than a Netgate stuff, in my opinion.

But, as you also highlight, NethServer is not only as Firewall anymore…
