So, what are you working on? - 28 Nov 17

Getting some NethServer dev skills, started playing with nethserver-mock last week.

Did you use this module? Never had problems with it…

maybe you could be interested by this GitHub - stephdl/nethserver-template: a template to create nethserver-module

It is just a template I use when I start from scratch a new module. You have some folders and some examples in the createlinks, and of course a template of the spec file. For more examples I have done some documentations in the wiki:

https://wiki.nethserver.org/doku.php?id=developer
https://wiki.nethserver.org/doku.php?id=developer:rpm_dependencies
https://wiki.nethserver.org/doku.php?id=developer:spec_file_notes

I don’t want to put the whole links, you should discover them quiet

With this you can either understand what is a rpm, or maybe take some ideas or needs to start coding, don’t know

Thank you very much! Built my second rpm with your nethserver-template right now and it’s working. :relaxed: There are some small differences to the wiki in the .spec file but I think you just improved it.

  • new line: BuildRoot: /var/tmp/%{name}-%{version}-%{release}-buildroot
  • missing line: URL: %{url_prefix}/%{name}
  • change: %{genfilelist} $RPM_BUILD_ROOT > %{name}-%{version}-%{release}-filelist instead of %{genfilelist} %{buildroot} > %{name}-%{version}-filelist

I’ll go on reading and learning now…

yep things have changed a bit with ns7, some records are https://wiki.nethserver.org/doku.php?id=developer:nethserver_7_kickstart#common_issues

the buildroot can be written also BuildRoot: %{_tmppath}/%{name}-%{version} but I’m even not sure it is a mandatory

Hi,
I’m just testing NethServer I’ve discover few weeks ago by @stephdl at Capitole du Libre. Thank you!
I’m from SME-Server, I use it principaly @home since long time.

I think NS is cool, more customizable, more modern.
I like:

  • to install it in a VPS,
  • let’s encrypt,
  • software center (for install Sogo, NextCloud with the mouse!),
  • and I’ll discover more later…

But I had/have some problems with:

  • my first VPS provider (with venet0), I’ve switch to another one and now it’s good!
  • virtual host: I’ve uploaded files with ftp, but apache send always the “NethServer home page” (I think I’ll open a tread for that)

Can I say that NethServer is a good upgrade of SME Server? I’m a bit biased
What do you think people?

I came from SME and don’t regret the change!

I wouldn’t say that NS is a good “upgrade” of SME. The only thing they have in common anymore is the e-smith templating.

SME is a good an stable server, but here the community is so great.
You won’t have to wait long for help or any replay else.
NS is easier to handle IMO, more modern, more active in development and more innovative.
So it’s a good idea to change from SME to NS for many resons.
But maybe I’m a liitle bit biased to.

I am doing a lot of testing last few days.
Fired up some new VM’s of NS7.4. Installed webtop5 on one and on the other the printserver module with SavaPage. The latter to recheck if the howto is fail/fool proof. And yeah, it works perfectly!

well… no doubt this community is great but…
I can frankly say that you haven’t to wait too long for a reply on SME’s forums, since I read all the posts there and I answer in minutes (I’m Stefano there, you can easily check ;-))
