ns7b I can't figure out how to create a user

I’ve tried all kinds of variations, with and without password, I referenced the thread ‘first blood’ and @GG_jr posts.

Hi fasttech,

You cannot create an user with email address like user name.
Look at the red message.

Could be a nice feature. I think @davidep said something regarding this.

@GG_jr
No matter what variation I use, it won’t create a user. Using ‘service’, there is no error after submitting, the page refreshes to the user list of which only administrator@magic…blah blah is listed.

I had also tried creating a group, that failed.

Something is wrong with NS7b1.
Too much issues reported.
I had no time to test NS7b1.
I will try tomorrow or even tonight.

I have created users, I don’t know why it is successful now when I attempted these users in this way before.

@filippo_carletti
Is db accounts show a valid command for NS7?

While the command is still valid, it can only show partial information.
User and groups are not shown, since they come from the configured provider (to date, samba ad dc or ldap directory).
Shared folders and email aliases are still maintained in the accounts database.
I think that @davidep could give more details.

Well said Filippo, of course there’s plenty of details but they may be off-topic here.

This seems relevant. It should be systemd-run that wants to run a command inside the nsdc container.

On the second run that message isn’t there.

@fasttech, did you reboot or re-started some process in the meantime?

We’re the testing team, we’re here to fix them before the Final release!

yes, you can see in the logs I tried service service, it failed and I tried several more iterations, then rebooted, tried several interations, not realizing it would append the domain itself, until trying without the domain and thus successful. So, the reboot restarted something necessary for user creation under samba.

I think we should display the domain suffix on the creation form, so one can guess what’s going to happen…

@giacomo has put this in testing @GG_jr @fasttech would you mind testing it?

Last week I wanted to put a question to @giacomo regarding this topic:
"Password management - Effects of expired password"
I had no time because from this week I’m in vacation for three weeks and I had many things to do at work.
I will try to test this, as time allows.

I have a dedicated server with NS7b1 and I can use it through VPN.
I want to test the following scenario, again, if the time allows:

  • NS as DC/AD
  • WebTop
  • Shared folder
  • Effects of expired password (mail access, AD access)

I’ll try today, I’ve got to get some non NS stuff done and I used up my ‘free’ time on the ns ids. :slight_smile:
